College Essay Writing Tips

College Essay Writing TipsA typical college essay normally takes around three to four months from start to finish. It can take several months to complete an entire college essay, but it can also take many years to complete one. In other words, the average college student has between five and ten essays at the beginning of each year. The average high school student does not have this level of writing experience. In order to write an essay in a reasonable amount of time, it is crucial that you first understand the appropriate structure of the essay itself. Writing essays are not like doing research for a report or term paper. You cannot sit down and write your own thesis statement for a thesis.First of all, you will need to determine what topic you are going to cover. Most high school students know that they will be writing about their family background and possibly some of their personal achievements, but the most important thing is that you are able to get the main points across. A go od tip here is to start out with an outline that shows you all of the main points. There are many different ways to outline and the one you choose is going to depend on the topic you are writing about. It may sound silly, but it really does work. Just make sure that you give your reader something to read through before you go on to the meat of the essay.Another element of writing a good college essay is the introduction and conclusion. A good introduction should be somewhat interesting and not very long. It should have enough information to help establish where the student is coming from and also include some facts or interesting anecdotes about the reader or the professor that may interest them. The conclusion of an essay is important because it is where most students stop writing. It is also usually where most people go back and read everything that was said. The essay conclusion should include your final opinion about the topic and why you believe it to be important to the discussi on that you were talking about. Also, the conclusion should offer a detailed reason for your opinion and should also briefly describe the evidence you have in support of that opinion. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, you will need to also write the body of the essay, which should be one hundred to two hundred words. This is the section that will most likely be read by the class or other people involved in grading the essay. Your goal here is to set up some kind of connection between the subject matter and the rest of the essay, but keep in mind that in college, it is okay to discuss outside sources or opinions. It is also important to mention any conflicts between the opinion you offer and the information you provide. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, college essays can take a great deal of time to write, especially if the student is writing for multiple assignments. For this reason, I highly recommend that the student actually take notes while they are writing. That way , they will have a very good idea of the general flow of the essay as well as what they should say next.
